That awkward moment when your wife says … wouldn’t it be great if …
The plan was hatched a while back I guess. Wouldn’t it be cool to make something for Charlotte rather than just buying something from a shop? Val picked up the bedside table above for €5 on le bon coin.
I don’t get to work with tools that much. I have however seemed to grow a small collection in the last 2 – 3 years. The latest addition were chisels.
The biggest problem putting this project together was the circular hole not to mention the front of the oven. Bit of wood putty fill to patch up a few holes seems to do a rather nice job as well.
Val added a splash of colour and it all starts to take shape. Front oven door is a bit of left over wood from some shelves I put together a few months back.
Val was all set on using some small IKEA dials she’d picked up for 50 cents or something. I said I could put together a twisty dial thing again from some scraps of wood. She wondered … what on earth but … Are they perfect? No but it’s a lot of fun to put them together. I think they look great and I only sliced my fingers open 3 times :D
Putting a bit of colour onto the dials. (Well black is a colour right?) and adding in a small plate and some holes in the plate below for the screws mean they’ll turn rather nicely.
Again another small sheet of plywood and some work with the jigsaw means I’ve got a kinda quirky hob plate. I actually love the fact they aren’t perfectly round it adds something to it.
Just in time we managed to put it all together. The hot and cold taps were the drawer knobs. The tap is a letter J that val picked up. The “Glass” for the oven was a sheet of perspex? from a picture frame that was used for another purpose.
Phase one is complete and a very happy baby was seen putting things into the cooker and on the hobs. All in all a major success and it’s not finished yet. More tweaking / More painting and fine tuning to go :)
It’s really nice to make something for someone and I love my wife for having the idea, sorting all the painting and all the project management and ideas about it all :)
Stay tuned for Phase 2 :D I .. am … excited :)
No don’t worry it’s not last minute Christmas shopping panic. It’s last minute sorting out Charlotte’s present panic. Santa is building her a cooker and of course with one of the elves being away a week and not using all the tools that often this equates to things getting left to the last minute.
Oh well have a lego photo instead. It was the advent day 24 calendar and who had to arrive? SANTA
I ended up picking up the Lego City Advent Calendar this year. Why? cus I wanted to, also it was going rather cheap in SuperU compared to the online prices of various places. I’ve opened them with Charlotte most mornings though with being gone a week back to Ireland we may have opened a few more before I left.
I’ve avoided posting a daily picture of each item. Some have been better than others. Val would have preferred if they were all Christmas themed items. I’m happy they aren’t as there’s more potential for reuse and photo ops.
Today’s present is the above. Wonderfully simple items each made from 5 little bricks and I simply find them so cool. I’m also reminding of the below advert which is extremely clever and puts the 5 bricks to shame opting for 2 to do the same job.
It’s lego – unleash your imagination.
Ho Ho Ho … taking time out to share some of the Christmas cheer around here :)
I suspect my baggage on the way back to Nantes is going to be filled with these mince pies (well maybe not these specifically but .. ) and some jars of Mince Meat. Lemsips will be stocked up on as well … ( Found some Christmas tissues last night as well I had to buy they go nicely with the photo )
Anybody need me to bring back anything? :)
I ended up putting up two small sets of lights today in the office and this evening they really came into their own. *sighs* I know … pink wall paper W T F … and many other comments can be made about the office … “C’est quoi ce bordel?” probably being one of them but … I’ll get there eventually … :)
As per the title … managed to get the tree up today.
It’s part of the Lego Advent Calendar I bought. I won’t be around every day this month though so we opened up one or two extra days I’ll be away. This was one of the items and it does make me rather happy.
The first item in the Advent calendar was …
Truth be told I don’t recall ever having an advent calendar apart from a chocolate one which doesn’t really count does it? Happy December everyone
